Thank you for your interest in becoming a Board Member of the Winthrop Farmers Market (WFM). The Winthrop Farmers Market is a farmer and artisan market committed to providing the local community with access to fresh organic produce from independent farmers, and to showcase the unique foods and crafts of artists and small businesses. We strive to create a welcoming environment through the organization of seasonal markets, which foster an inclusive spirit, promote sustainability, and encourage entrepreneurial vitality.
Our overarching goal is GROWTH—fostering an expanding market presence, community engagement, and increased access to locally-sourced products.
As a board member of WFM, your duties may include:
1. Strategic Vision Collaboration - Work with fellow board members to develop and enhance the long-term strategic vision for the farmers market, focusing on community engagement and growth.
2. Meeting Attendance - Attend monthly meetings during the off-season (October - May) to stay aligned on goals and initiatives. 3. 3. Community Outreach and Engagement - Build relationships with local organizations, businesses, and residents to promote the market and enhance community involvement.
4. Vendor Relations Support - Help establish and nurture relationships with vendors to ensure a diverse range of offerings while addressing any concerns or disputes that may arise.
5. Policy Development Input - Contribute to the development of policies related to vendor participation, product standards, and market safety, ensuring a streamlined and effective market experience.
6. Staffing Markets - Attend and staff 3 to 4 markets during the market season, which runs from mid-June to mid-September on Sundays from 9 AM to 1 PM.
7. Governance and Best Practices - Ensure that the farmers market operates in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations while adhering to best governance practices for accountability.
8. General Support of Market Operations - Collaborate with board members on tasks that may involve community engagement, marketing, or other areas beneficial for overall growth, recognizing that not all members will be involved in every specialized task.
Overall, as a board member, your main responsibility is to support the success and sustainability of the Winthrop Farmers Market by providing leadership, direction, and collaborative effort toward our shared goals.
